Saguaro Lake Cruise, April 19, 2012 |
I recently went for a 90 minute cruise on Saguaro Lake aboard the Desert Belle. Saguaro Lake is located east of Phoenix on the Salt River, downriver of Canyon Lake and Apache Lake. The landscape is dominated by Four Peaks and the Goldfield Mountains. It is reached by way of the Bush Highway.
The Desert Belle tour boat makes frequent cruises.
Four Peaks is prominent on the horizon.
Off-road vehicle trails are part of the Butcher Jones Recreation Site.
Crowned Saguaro Cacti display an uncommon growth pattern.
Saguaro Lake meanders through the foothills of the Goldfield Mountains.
A Turkey Buzzard silhouetted against Four Peaks.
Begley Flat Recreation Area has docks and onshore facilities.
A duck swoops down to land on the water.
Saguaro Lake is impounded by Stewart Mountain Dam. It is 1,26./0 feet long and 208 feet high. It was conmpleted in 1930.
